Understanding Insurance as it Relates to Eye Care Services and Products
Regardless of whether or not you have insurance coverage we pledge to always recommend the best quality eyecare services and products available for you and your family. However, we realize that insurance coverage is a factor in where some patients choose to receive their eyecare and so we have put some important information on this page regarding insurance benefits.
Every insurance is different and it is important for you to verify the details of your individual plan. Below is a brief outline of different types of insurance coverage that may affect your fees at our office. If you have additional questions, please contact your benefits administrator within your human resources department or with your individual insurance company, or call our office.
Vision Insurance Information
Benefits offered by some medical plans or as supplemental coverage by another company. These typically include allowances towards wellness eye exams, contact lens fittings, and glasses. Many of these plans have provider directories, but also offer coverage for providers who are not listed (out of network benefits). Only you choose who cares for you and your family’s vision.
Medical Insurance Information
Exam fees are usually covered if a medical condition is diagnosed. These conditions may include cataracts, glaucoma, injury, and infections. You will be responsible for any copays, coinsurance, deductibles, or non-covered services associated with this type of visit.
If you have both medical and vision insurance, and a medical condition is discovered, your exam, or a portion, may be filed with your medical insurance provider.
We will help you work with your insurance company if you require non covered services or products. Please remember payment is due at the time of service.
Contact lens wearers require additional tests that may not be included in vision coverage.
Occassionally, the information from your insurance company is incorrect. This is no guarantee of coverage. If for any reason your insurance company does not honor these obligations, you will be responsible for all charges.

*Some restrictions apply, the best practice is to verify provider coverage with your benefits administrator within your HR department, then verify with your individual vision and medical insurance providers whether we are in or out of network providers. When you make an appointment at our office we will verify with you and your insurance company which products and services are covered. However, if your insurance company does not honor these obligations for any reason, you will be responsible for all charges.
